Lois Lindley Memorial Library

After months of struggling with cancer and kidney failure, the Lord took Lois home July 31st. The love and prayer support of her friends have been absolutely amazing. We continue to marvel as we see more of the extent and depth of her influence. Lois had a great love for the Word of God that grew out of studying and teaching it for fifty years. Because she had your address, we are sure you are one of those blessed by her life and her “Workmen of the Word” Bible studies. In the seventies, Lois and I visited African Bible College (ABC) in the jungles of Liberia. Founded by the Chinchen family in 1976, the vision, commitment and sacrifices made on behalf of this college made a deep impression on us. ABC is producing pastors and biblically trained leaders for the church, government, schools and businesses of West Africa. About fifteen years ago a civil war erupted that devastated Liberia. Over the ensuing ten years of war, the campus was reduced to block walls and the 15,000 books in the library were stolen. In this picture you see the library as it looked until very recently. It now has a roof, windows, and doors and the first 5,000 books have even arrived. The library is simply awaiting our arrival to finish and furnish. The reestablishment of ABC is a tremendous encouragement to all of Liberia as the country continues to stabilize and rebuild.

We have a reservation on a ship headed for Liberia in December for a 20-foot container to be filled with supplies and furniture including tables, chairs, and computers. Our challenge is to raise $45,000 to purchase the equipment and to pack the container by December 1st. With the Lord’s help and yours it can be done. Our goal is to have a work team go to Liberia in early 2009 and have the library open and in operation by next June! Restoring the library would really excite Lois. I can just hear her exclaiming, “Just do it!” As one touched by Lois’s life, we invite you to give to help make it happen. Please make checks payable to Granada Heights Friends Church and designate it “Lois Lindley Memorial Library.” One-hundred percent of your gift will go to Liberia for the library.

Your prayers and participation in restoring the library are deeply appreciated. Your gift will encourage Lois’s great love of teaching God’s Word for years to come. I like to paraphrase Hebrews 11:4 to read “she was commended as a righteous woman … and by faith she still speaks.”

Gratefully yours,
Verl Lindley &
The Lindley Family
